She enchanted children the world over with her portrayal as magical nanny Mary Poppins who can fly with the aid of an umbrella.

But nowadays, Julie Andrews appears to be taking to the skies in a far less bewitching fashion.

The 77-year-old superstar was snapped looking as regal as ever as she arrived for a flight at John F Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday in New York City.

The Oscar winner was dressed-up casual as she made her way into the airport on the rainy afternoon.

Julie wore grey slacks and a diamond-patterned black-and-white sweater, paired with black boots and a red scarf slung loosely around her neck.

The singing icon attempted to go incognito with a white baseball cap, but there was no mistaking her famous short curly blonde hair and smile.

Julie smartened up her look with large silver earrings and a deep pink lipstick that accentuated her full lips.
She carried a black leather jacket over her forearm and accessorised with an elegant cream leather handbag.
The actress was clearly hoping for a restful flight as she carried a red-and-cream airplane pillow.

The Dame appeared to be accompanied by a female companion, who waited for the star to catch up with her after exiting their vehicle.
The Dame, whose 1997 nodule surgery left her virtually unable to sing, has been slowing down in recent years.

The actress-turned-children's author hasn't been in a film since lending her voice to 2010's Despicable Me and hasn't appeared on camera since The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004.

However, the Sound of Music star recently published her twenty-fifth children's book, The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl, and she's preparing to direct a musical production of one of her other books, The Great American Mousical, at Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut this fall.

She also received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2011.
