The Middleton women clearly had a wardrobe tête-à-tête before yesterday's spectacular flotilla as they decided to on a red, white and blue theme for their outfits in a subtle nod to the Union Flag.
With the Duchess of Cambridge in a scarlet Alexander McQueen dress, mother Carole opted for a cream tailored summer suit while Pippa looked demure in a nautical navy number by Orla Keily.

With Kate on board the Spirit of Chartwell with the Royal family, the Middletons were invited to celebrate the historic occasion travelling on board one of the 1,000 boats that took to the Thames for the river showcase.
Judging by the photos the family looked delighted to be putting their party planning business to one side for the day to be out and about.
Despite the miserable weather, Michael, Carole, Pippa and James were snapped smiling at the cheering crowds and swigging on champagne as they floated genteelly down the river for the majestic waterborne pageant.

Pippa stayed close to her father Michael who stood behind his daughter, his hand affectionately on hers.
There was no champagne for the Duchess of Cambridge however, who was pictured on the royal barge waving and smiling at the crowds with her husband the Duke of Cambridge, smartly dressed in his Royal Air Force Uniform, Prince Harry and of course the Queen and Prince Philip.
